Mediation can be used at different stages of the conflict process, for example during the early stages to focus on moving forwards and not holding on to the past. It also has application on a more formal basis after a process is underway and parties agree that process be put on hold to enable a trained mediator to try and reach a solution acceptable to all parties
There is also a place for mediation after a formal process such as a Disciplinary or grievance has reached a conclusion, to support the parties and ensure effective baggage-free integration back in to the workplace.
